Introduction
At the heart of the EOS ecosystem exists a group of decentralized entities referred to as Block Producers (BPs). EOS token holders elect these BPs through a voting mechanism, and their primary duties include establishing consensus, validating transactions and incorporating in the next block, adding the block to the blockchain, and ensuring the security of the EOS Public Blockchain. The network accommodates an extensive roster of more than 500 BPs, but only the top 21 BPs have the privilege of crafting the next block. These block producers are rewarded with EOS coins for their efforts.
