ENF Updates: Mid-year Roundtable

Get ready. Leap 5.0 began its countdown and a schedule is in hand. Recent Fireside Chats (01, 02) discussed the HotStuff consensus mechanism, instant finality (IF), and P2P enhancements. For more technical stuff, check out the monthly Antelope Coalition and weekly Node Operator meetings. New ENF blog posts are available:

WebIDE is an asset in the foundation’s quest to make EOS a developer-friendly environment. Recent ENF events include:

In mainstream news, EOS made headlines on Analytics Insight, Bloomberg, Cointelegraph (mentioned), BG Trade (mentioned), The Chain Bulletin, and The Block.

Leap 5.0 Updates

The ENF reminded the community that Antelope Leap 5.0 is scheduled to launch in Q4 2023. An initial timeline was revealed at the August 09 EOS Node Operator Roundtables. The community actively works with the ENF’s schedule to help streamline the launch process. Instant finality was discussed during the Mid-Year EOS Roundtable on Twitter Spaces. Instant Finality is integral to many new developments on the EOS Network. Both IF and replay testing are essential to setting a date for the consensus upgrade. Other features the ENF pointed to this week were:

  • improved zero-knowledge proofs

  • enhanced privacy and security features

  • a new consensus mechanism

EOS Labs Instead of Yield+

EOS Labs was a focus of the Mid-Year EOS Roundtable. The official announcement was made on August 8 (with the multisig taking place on August 6). The leader of the program is a founding ENF board member. ENF CEO Yves La Rose mentioned that EOS Labs would be the first time that another entity will directly fund ecosystem projects that are:

“separately accountable to the BP- not the ENF”

Instead of a single inflation “bucket”, multiple parties will be able to participate. Imagine the new inflation dynamic alongside instant finality and a new consensus mechanism. In regard to replacing Yield+, approximately 25% of funds expect to funnel to EOS Labs. Then the entity in control of EOS Labs will incorporate its form of business development for the EOS Network. The EOS Network looks forward to a grander (for-profit) horizon after a year with the Yield+ program. In a sense, EOS Labs already exists (albeit under the ENF).

Legal Update

The ENF has taken a position on the existing class action against B1. The ENF is pursuing an independent action. Its preliminary finding is:

“The proposed settlement amount of $22 million represents a tiny fraction of the $4 billion”

The foundation’s recommendation is:

“The ENF urges community members to opt out of the settlement…”

Because the community can together:

“…send a strong message to http://Block.one and to the court that the settlement is entirely inadequate and does not adequately compensate community members for the losses they suffered…”

The opt-out deadline is August 29. The ENF has its own opt-out document that token purchasers are encouraged to fill out.

EOS Cross-chain: SwapBox, Gate.io, and Nerve

New cross-chain solutions recently announced on EOS are SwapBox (Nabox), Gate.io, and Nerve. All incorporate Metamask. SwapBox and Nerve have several wallet options. Nabox (01, 02) is a mobile solution for dApps on EOS EVM. With Multichain’s recent issues, it's a blessing to now have three cross-chain options. Be aware that US users will need to wait for Gate.us. Gate appears to have an exciting new product(s) on the horizon:

“PS: Expect more and more exchanges to integrate #EOS EVM support over the next few months.”

NerveNetwork published a Medium article: Announcement of NerveNetwork Updated to v1.26.0. Also, note PythNetwork, an EOS/USD price feed available across 25+ blockchains.

Wharf v1

Why is Wharf a big deal? Maybe an excerpt from the opening paragraph introducing the v1 Session Kit will help:

“Not only are you reading this article on the new version of the WharfKit.com website, but also the Session Kit, one of Wharf’s major components, is now production ready!”

The Session Kit comes with:

“…dozens of other important components, samples, plugins, and templates:”

A primary goal is to “provide one convenient hub”. At the Wharf hub, developers can find the best tools supported by learning and reference materials, as well as a place to engage with peers. Also in the plan are regular website updates. For more information, Get to Know Wharf SDK on Twitter Spaces.

GameFi Updates: AMA, Owlando, Ultra, Wombat

The GameFi and DeFi: Differences & Integrations AMA hosted several guests, including the ENF, Upland, Metaline, X World Games, and .gems. The conversation centered around innovation and mass adoption. Owlando made the ENF’s #PoweredByEOS list. Read the article to find out about how Owlando rewards players in a sandbox environment, employs EOS EVM and fosters creativity. Ultra is aligning development alongside Leap 5.0. The team touted:

“…almost instant transactions for web3 dApp users, akin to web2 experience…”

as well as “…improving scalability & inter-blockchain communication”. Wombat published an article about the EOS-WAX bridge and how to use ptokens to connect with Polygon.

Around the EOS Network Community

It’s been an exciting week. The mid-year roundtable was a bit of a shocker. There’s a lot of ‘alpha’ regarding what has changed, expectations, and some predictions. Check out EOS Support’s semi-annual report. While the bear market persists and some programs move forward with questionable futures, there’s an undeniable sense of overall productivity. EOS’ future is now integrally tied to Leap 5.0. 👇 more weekly resources for exciting news from around the community:
