Leap 5.0 Announced

Whispers have drifted around a major consensus upgrade. The ENF officially announced Antelope Leap 5.0. Key features include:

  • Instant Finality (IF)

  • HotStuff consensus algorithm

  • peer-to-peer protocol enhancements

Instant Finality helps deliver a Web2 feel on web3. HotStuff helps make IF a reality, benefits scalability and allows for new governance models. The recently released inter-blockchain communication (IBC) also benefits from IF. P2P enhancements were described as:

“…improvements to the peer node discovery and synchronization process within the peer-to-peer (P2P) protocol of the nodeos service.”

Expect a public launch by Q4.

ENF Updates: AMAs, Q2, and More Reports

The EOS Network Foundation released the Q2 2023 Quarterly Report. Contents include the network’s fifth anniversary, growth metrics, technical development, EOS EVM updates, partnerships and relations, events, working groups, and the roadmap. Check out the highlights. ENF Director of Developer Relations, Nathan James, joined the Atem Network on Twitter Spaces to discuss security and privacy. Stephen Bisson, Co-founder of EOS Nation, joined Mars.fyi and Chintai on Twitter Spaces to discuss AI on Blockchain. The foundation introduced itself on the new Threads social network and hosted a GameFi/DeFi AMA. Two monthly blog posts are available: the June P&O Health Report and the July BP Meeting.

Legal Update

ENF CEO Yves La Rose wrote an updated letter to the community regarding the case against B1. Yves highlighted two points:

  • the foundation prepares for an independent action

  • intended participants may need to opt out of the active $22M settlement to be eligible

While other legal actions may befall B1 (related to EOS), the ENF wishes the community to be aware of the foundation’s pursuance of its own, legal recourse. Both Cointelegraph and the BlockchainReporter picked up the story. Dig deeper via the EOS Support: News Brief: $22M Settlement EOS Class Action Update.

Marketing, Sponsorships, and EOS Labs

Back in April, the ENF announced a partnership with DWF Labs. Later in June, both were identified as Title Partners for the TOKEN2049 Singapore event. In addition to the largest crypto event of the year, the foundation will also be sponsoring:

Look who’s also a (Platinum) sponsor at TOKEN2049 in Singapore. Expect the event to be [cough] hot stuff. Potentially groundbreaking are the aligned agendas of Uniswap’s founder and the ENF’s CEO as reported by Crypto News Flash:

“Notably, Yves La Rose, responding to a recent idea by Uniswap founder Hayden, noted that Web3 developers need to vampire-attack Web2 platforms to ensure future growth prospects.”

The ENF proposed EOS Labs as an incubator focused on research, development, and new project support. EOS Network Ventures will provide funding for the research incubator. Also, Yves is scheduled to speak at Upbit Conference (South Korea) in November.

WebX Asia and Upland Tokio

Speaking of events, WebX Asia inspired a short ENF post entitled Not Just Theatre: How EOS Got Rid of Block.One. The ENF’s story was told on the feature stage (01, 02). In (virtual) attendance was Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida. The leader said about web3:

“The new form of capitalism”

Yves La Rose stated in the same tweet:

“While the West continues to antagonize blockchain companies, Asia is welcoming us in with their arms wide open.”

Also, check out BigBeardSamarui in a picturesque photo with Upland’s Dirk Lueth. The Upland team is ready to launch Tokio as the next virtual city.

GameFi, Collectify, CryptoDo, and Defibox

How are you feeling about Gamefi? The EOS community is excited. Motodex by Openbysea and Knockout Wars by Gami are a couple of promising GameFi projects preparing to launch on EOS. Brandon Lovejoy hosted an AMA to discuss Motodex. Knockout Wars has a demo you can test for yourself. New GameFi projects invariably concern themselves with EOS EVM. Two new projects specifically marketed for EVM are Collectify (custom NFT marketplace) and CryptoDo (create dApps without programming). Not many know this, but Defibox has a Gamebox. Though, recent news about Defibox centers around celebrating its third anniversary and a giveaway. Defibox gamifies giveaways as well as anyone.

EOS Respect Election and New Website

The EOS Respect community hopes to have a new website for its next election. Features of the new website include:

  • easy account creation

  • new authentication system

  • e-commerce section and merchandise

  • decentralized ticketing system

  • rating/vote system for dApps

  • advanced transparency and accountability

Remember, those features are in addition to the services that EOS Support already provides like 24/7 live support, social media ticketing, affiliation, and more. The whole community is excited about the possibilities. As for election #11 that just passed, five new CDs were elected: Cristhian Rincon, Haza, Nicolas Davoine, Marco Gonzalez, and Tran Tien Thuc. As always, EOS Respect Monthly Updated Numbers and Statistics are available on the EOS Support newsfeed.

Around the EOS Network Community

With the ENF at WebX and the announcement of Antelope Leap 5.0, the EOS Network may be at a nexus point. GameFi is living up to the excitement promised by Yves. So are development funding arms. EOS EVM makes consistent progress. The loyal, core community of working groups, regular attendees of meetings, Pomelo, Fireside Chat, and the like all continue to advance their efforts. It's an amazing coming together. 👇 more weekly resources for exciting news from around the community:
