ENF Updates: Vulnerability Fix, AMAs, Substreams, NFTs

The EOS Network Foundation’s CEO, Yves La Rose may be the most approachable leader in the crypto space. He again fielded all types of questions via AMAs:

The EOS Network is a proud community. Big Beard Samurai illustrates by touting his Canadian heritage amidst House of Commons news. Leap version 4.0.4 patched a security vulnerability. All active nodes upgraded on the same day as the release. Superior job by engineers and block producers to address the issue in less than 48 hours. Substreams for AntelopeIO provide advanced blockchain data extraction across a variety of mediums. Listen to the discussion from last week's Fireside Chat clip. Also, listen to a special discussion on The Future of NFTs on EOS.

EOS EVM Updates

The ENF continues to aggressively support both EVM development and funding. Read the latest about the $50,000 program on the ENF’s blog: EOS Invests in EVM Innovation: Developer Incentive Program Announced. The foundation recognizes the potential for exponential growth through VMs. An EOS EVM Incentive Program (EEIP) provides both funding and the resources needed to succeed. Members of EVM-based projects are encouraged to fill out a survey to participate. Key EVM milestones were reported in a Messari report (see below). Learn more about how EOS combines the best of two virtual machines in a Wavect Decoded podcast with Zack Gall and Kevin Riedl.

Newly Announced EVM Projects

A flurry of new EVM projects recently entered the EOS Network:

And remember all that Hypha DAO is doing.

Messari Report on the ENF’s Q2 Performance

Messari published the State of EOS Q2 2023 on July 3. Highlighted in the report were the following milestones:

“EOS achieved a major milestone w/ EOS EVM launch, $1M+ in TVL, and 5.1K in daily transactions.”

An overview of “Key Insights” include:

  • EOS EVM milestones

  • market cap and rank

  • Upland

  • GameFi and EOS Network Ventures (ENV) funding commitments

  • Q4 consensus upgrade, near-instant finality (IF), and inter-blockchain communication (IBC)

The list of tables, charts, and statistics includes:

  • key metrics

  • financial overview; revenue vs. market cap

  • ecosystem overview (contracts, addresses, DeFi, development, and growth)

The report concludes that growth expects to “…improve the strength and diversity of EOS’s network and ecosystem.” and “…the consensus upgrade planned to launch in Q4’23 will improve network decentralization and user experience.

Multichain ALERT: Usage Stop and Required Claim for Refunds

Multichain experienced a substantial security issue. Readers of this bi-monthly newsletter may recall the Multichain router issues in May. EOS was NOT affected then. Due to several surprises involving the usage of Multichain, the EOS community is advised to avoid the Multichain bridge for the time being. The Multichain team announced on July 7 that:

“The Multichain service stopped currently, and all bridge transactions will be stuck on the source chains. There is no confirmed resume time. Please don’t use the Multichain bridging service now.”

The ENF confirmed the exploit and stated:

“The EOS EVM <> Ethereum bridge has not been affected.”

Multichain has frozen wrapped digital assets (including EOS EM) and will release them following an investigation. The ENF warned the community to revoke all permissions.

The most recent statement from Multichain regarding this ongoing issue can be found on their Twitter feed.

The Spread of Hu-Fi and Pomelo

The majority of the human population knows very little about cryptocurrencies. It’s a challenge for new users to merely differentiate between the words blockchain, crypto, and decentralized ledger. At the heart of the crypto movement is human-to-human (P2P) finance, or Hu-Fi. EOS PGL.MLT is a leader in Hu-Fi adoption. Activities occur locally. However, resource access is global. Check out EOS PGL.MLT products and what the team has been up to lately:

In other news, check out the Top 10 Pomelo projects and Antelope Tools [and survey] while the community awaits the Season 6 Analysis.

Upvoting: Eden on EOS, Eden Fractal, and EOS Respect

Eden on EOS held its most recent quarterly election on July 8. Three Chief Delegates and 13 Level-1 Delegates were elected. It’s a critical time in the future of Eden on EOS as the treasury begins to run dry. The small community works to build and connect to other organizations. Other upvote organizations include:

  • EOS Respect (monthly elections; next on July 24)

  • Eden Fractal, Spanish Fractal, Alien Worlds Fractal, and others (weekly meetings and upvotes)

The Eden Fractal has been around since early in the Genesis Fractal. Its impact extends beyond weekly meetings through efforts like Eden Town Hall, Eden Creators, and MindWeb (fractal and EOSDEN). EOS Respect is part of a larger unofficial network that includes EOS Audit, EOS Synergy, EOS Support, and many affiliated projects.

Around the EOS Network Community

A recent Fireside Chat saw a fascinating opening discussion about the HotStuff Consensus Algorithm (instant finality) and related technologies that help EOS redefine the crypto space. On the same show, Yves La Rose also leaked a bit about GameFi coming to EOS EVM. EOS Support is running a 50 EOS community giveaway to help promote the organization's free services. Math Wallet (EVM) is also holding a giveaway. Defibox is probably the most respected financial dApp on EOS. The platform turns three in the latter half of July. Defibox is well-known throughout the community for its celebratory activities. 👇 more weekly resources for exciting news from around the community:

COMMUNITY CHATTER

A bi-monthly newsletter produced by w3briefs.com. Coverage spans from June 29 through July 14 highlighting recent events and key projects within the EOS ecosystem.

Unique needs and services continue to emerge as the advantages of blockchain technology are realized. Easy access to information becomes increasingly important for expansive web3 networks.
