With an official date set, the EOS community gets ready for a paradigm shift in development, planning, and creativity. Hopefully, onlooking ETH developers and Antelope IBC blockchains feel the same.

EVM (Beta) Set to Launch on April 14

The EOS Network counts down the days from the announcement of the first live look at an EOS EVM. The launch is scheduled for April 14, 2023. See the launch roadmap presented by the ENF.

A final, major update was announced on January 20. To the community's pleasant surprise, EOS will be the native utility token for the EVM.

Preparation and Security Audit

EVM code expects to be hands-off by March 27 when a new testnet will launch. April 14 marks the day of the mainnet beta launch of version 0.4. However, continued “updates and improvements" will be ongoing. Note that a security audit is scheduled between March 27 and April 14.

Public Outreach and Marketing

Event scheduling ahead of EOS EVM is as follows:

The above events list is the first recognized by the ENF since Blockchain Expo Global and TOKEN2049 in London last year.

Other Notes and Activity Helping Prepare the Way

A whole lot of activity helps prepare the way for EOS EVM both from coordinated and independent efforts. The following sections are merely some highlights (mostly from March 2023).

Tech

  • IBC went live on EOS (01, 02).

  • Instant finality (IF) (01, 02) makes IBC more powerful.

  • EVM Name Service (EVMNS) facilitates connectivity across web3.

  • Greymass advances the development of Wharf Session Kit for Antelope web app integration.

Marketing and Partnerships

OUTLOOK

Coinciding with EOS EVM are Leap 4.0.0 advancements (on the Jungle 4 testnet). A consensus upgrade for 4.0 isn’t planned until September at the earliest.

It’s hard to speculate on something as big as EOS EVM. One thing is certain. Given the successful launch of EOS EVM, more opportunities will become available within the ecosystem.
