Blockchain governance is often overlooked. Neither Bitcoin, nor Ethereum, promote the topic. Miners and, in the case of EOS, block producers govern the network diligently to ensure smooth transactions. Built-in consensus for the current state of any given ledger shouldn’t be compared to the long term needs of an ecosystem.

Eden on EOS is the first viable solution for ensuring value adds alongside new development. Of and by the community, Eden took hold on the EOS public mainnet only recently. As core community developers replaced corporate-led EOS development, Eden governance arose as a means to reach consensus for complex endeavors.

What is EdenOS?

EdenOS is the name given to the software that runs on-chain elections. The first iteration of EdenOS appeared on EOS (hence Eden on EOS). Team ClarionOS developed the new governance model with the public mainnet in mind. Today, Eden on EOS is run by a group of community-selected delegates.

The First On-chain Election

Eden on EOS’s first election was a bit of a trial by fire. While the peace treaty already existed and was signed by all members, bylaws were merely kept in good faith. Some aspects of the bylaws were subject to debate. Among initial discussions were election terms. Six month terms were shortened to three. The new term standard was included into the first bylaws proposal.

Membership and Voting

All members must read the on-chain peace treaty and recently approved bylaws. Membership is by invitation only. Recorded video interviews further assures a dynamic of ‘know your community member’. Any member can serve as a delegate. Delegates are chosen via political playoffs of successive rounds of consensus. Adhering to established procedures makes for a community of trusted members and the choosing of representatives of high character. Thus assured are pre-election promises of using each representative's manpower to produce something of value for the EOS ecosystem.

Funding and Keeping Promises

Eden on EOS proved successful from the beginning. No wonder why allocating funds of substance was available for the first group of Chief Delegates. Finding funds had been a challenge before Eden. Projects that the community agreed were direly needed couldn’t get started because no suitable allocation mechanism existed. Not to say that funds weren’t available. Both private entities and block producers had the power to fund pivotal projects that could advance the EOS public mainnet.

It wasn't until Eden on EOS that an actual funding solution presented itself. More projects have been funded since the first election than at any other time in EOS’ history (except maybe during the first few months of the blockchain’s programming).

Eden on EOS exists to advance solutions that satisfy the needs of the community. Two key ways that new projects impact the mainnet are via Chief Delegate discussions and the platforms upon which they run. The Eden on EOS community elects delegates with the expectation that they will keep their promises to develop their projects. Each delegate receives funding based on their final standing in the political playoffs.

Ratifying Bylaws

The other way new projects impact the mainnet emerges from Chief Delegate weekly meetings. While lower-level delegates may not have the funds to promote impact projects, Chief Delegates certainly do. Together, CDs discuss their opinions and the future of Eden on EOS.

One of the earliest examples of an ongoing project that crosses over CD terms is the implementation of bylaws. First-term (genesis) Chief Delegates officially drafted bylaws that had initially circulated throughout the community. Second term CDs ratified these bylaws and decided how to integrate them on-chain. It was a big win for the community and the future of the mainnet.

About EdenOS Technology and the Future

Eden on EOS may prove to be the most important iteration of EdenOS technology. However, it’s by no means meant to be the only one. From day one, the idea was to enable others to adopt EdenOS for as many iterations that organizations might find helpful for their governance needs. Areas where EdenOS excels include:

  • electing leaders

  • fund distribution

  • protocol consensus

EdenOS is an advanced governance solution that the world needs and can use right now. Adapting conferencing technology for on-chain elections is a no-brainer. Video conferencing is now a part of daily life. Eden on EOS continues to evolve into a more elaborate and productive solution. Independent organizations can learn from Eden on EOS and adopt EdenOS to fit their specific needs. Imagine a world where governance solutions match the advancements of information technology. That is Eden.
