Never has the EOS community had a reason to be more excited. Antelope Leap 3.1 (and associated projects) solves persistent problems, delivers on early dreams, and introduces unique concepts. This article has two purposes:
As a reference for the events leading up to Leap 3.1
Inspirational and capturing the emotions of the day
Look out for a follow-up article reporting on those, soon to be cherished, first days of a leaping Antelope.
Months Leading Up to the Launch
In the months preceding September 2022, the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) grew from a small community of core team into a complete foundation and enterprising arm of the ecosystem.
The foundation replaced EOSIO with Antelope. It founded a new Coalition+ that brought EOSIO chains together in their development efforts. An EOS EVM is near and ready (“soon”) to go live. Finally, the ENF had enough runway left to ready the future of blockchain technology; inter-blockchain communication (IBC) was only recently announced and it’s also coming “soon”.
To say the ENF took the hard path wouldn’t do its efforts justice. Were there challenges? Most definitely. However, the ENF didn’t let the mainnet focus on the negative. Focused development had been an issue under past leadership. Rather, the ENF provides consistent, verifiable progress. ENF week-to-week accomplishments are actually more impressive than expressed here.
No, the ENF methodically delivers bright solutions. With every monthly update, all the efforts from all the teams consistently come together in very meaningful ways, such that Antelope became a foregone conclusion. Then, like a meteor thundering down into a nearby field, the foundation made a surprise announcement: An IBC will follow right after Leap launch day.
The Days Before
The days leading up to the launch of Antelope Leap 3.1 were incredibly exciting, yet the community remained poised. What stood out most was the diverse subject matter. Unlike other hardforks, Leap 3.1 is merely the beginning. Note that EOS doesn’t undergo hardforks like other blockchains. Rather, EOS nodes must come to consensus to upgrade the blockchain.

August brought a sigh of relief as hope permeated throughout a community let down so many times over the years. Even the most devout naysayers were silenced by August. Mainstream media began to take notice. The price of EOS moved positively, even when BTC and the rest of the market wasn’t.
By September, EOS users were on the edge of their seats with anticipation. Other EOSIO chains were as well. New users again began populating chat with the most basic questions. EOS hadn’t seen such interest in a long time.
EXPECTATIONS
The EOS Network Foundation has been nothing but professional. Not just for blockchain, but anywhere in the digital space. As an organization, the ENF is but a year old; yet, as individuals, the team has a wealth of experience probably unmatched in the space. No EOS user, around during the days prior to the foundation’s formation, doubted that Leap 3.1 would launch smoothly.
Now that the new EOS is live, the community is expecting to see IBC and EVM. Both were promised by the foundation. The ENF proves consistently timely in reaching development goals. It rarely, if ever, delays a scheduled promise, let alone fails. Furthermore, the word “soon”, in ENF lingo, means LOOK OUT… INCOMING!
