EOS hit the ground running as a model for third generation blockchain technology. Over its first couple of years, EOSIO core technology would see tremendous impact for users, decentralized applications, and record many firsts in the world of blockchain. However, development would unfortunately stagnate.

That was until the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) grew out of a group of core developers seeking the freedom and infrastructure to create. It flourished into a robust foundation tasked with maintaining the mainnet's independence. Enter the New EOS on Antelope (formerly EOSIO).

Vision, Mission and Founder

Information about the ENF’s vision, mission and founder are clearly presented on the team’s website. It’s as open a resource as the EOS mainnet community has ever been privy to.

ENF’ vision centers around “building a decentralized future” that uplifts the community and promotes innovation on a global scale. The Foundation’s mission involves “identifying the most fruitful opportunities for investment” that support symbiotic relationships and “fuel further innovation”.

Yves La Rose is widely regarded as one of the most important leaders within the EOSIO ecosystem. When he founded the EOS Network Foundation his ideas and passion met with immediate community support. He’s described as a “consummate consensus builder” that “lives and breathes EOS”.

Three Core Pillars

Guiding the ENF are three Core Pillars:

  • Cultivating Decentralized Communities

  • Technology Built by Open-Source Collaboration

  • Funding the Bright Future of the EOS Network

What good is a decentralized community that doesn’t produce value? Possibly a valueless purpose exists within traditionally centralized social media. However, valueless networking doesn't fly in the blockchain world. ENF cultivates communities that incorporate a:

“…multi-pronged approach …”

In support of:

“...a unified EOS community to create a positive sum gain, on EOS, and beyond …”

Today, through the efforts of working groups like EVM+, positive gains extend beyond the EOSIO ecosystem.

Support for decentralized communities come in the form of open-source technological collaboration. At the heart of EOS technology are priorities like:

“…high performance, flexibility, security, and developer freedom…”

Few blockchains can boast all of these qualities.

The third core pillar focuses on the future. It’s one that tackles both funding and efficiency by maintaining an observant:

“…birds-eye view of the Network…”

Foundation Working Groups

With a clear mission and objective, the ENF instituted working groups to carry out development. Working groups embrace their own missions and respective R&D. Each team is also responsible for making recommendations to help sustain the EOS mainnet.

Working groups compose independent blue papers detailing each role. Currently listed on the ENF website are:

  • API+

  • Core+

  • Wallet+

  • Audit+

  • EVM+

  • Recover+

  • Yield+

  • EOSIO+

  • Scalability+

API+ was identified among the most critical aspects for connecting users to blockchain. Core+ directly tackles the mainnet’s development. In the blockchain landscape, maintaining a user base is only as good as a chain’s Wallet+. More frugal users will invariably dig deeper and need a team that’s on top of auditing (Audit+) the network.

With the mainnet secured by the aforementioned teams, the ENF recognized the opportunity for reaching beyond to other chains, both those that leverage EOSIO and those valuing network resources. EVM+ seeks to connect the EOS and Ethereum ecosystems. Now is a good time to point out the efforts to build a protocol for recovering lost resources by Recover+.

Among the most exciting working groups is Yield+. Liquidity yields become increasingly attractive as a network matures.

All this might seem like a lot to take in. Is it any wonder why core developers founded the broadly scoped working group, EOSIO+ (now Antelope) Coalition. Coalition+ gained a lot of momentum in recent weeks and releases independent bi-weekly reports. The final working group on the above list tackles the critically challenging task of Scalability+. It’s an area that’s proved quite difficult for even the large market cap of Bitcoin.

Concluding Thoughts

The ENF is in its infancy. When compared to previous lead developer, Block. One, ENF’s potential compares to an aircraft’s altitude while still flying in ground effect. Looking for help with the turbulence of lowflight? You’ll find all the community support and concierge service via a dedicated team of agents.

EOS is more than the ENF. Projects like Pomelo, Eden, and EOS Support illustrate the growth of the ecosystem. What’s truly special is that the ENF manifested out of the community’s desire to independently succeed and the heartfelt inspiration of EOS’ early vision.
