How to securely generate EOS key pairs offline

This step-by-step tutorial guides you through the process of installing eoskey app and generating key pairs.

Key pairs should always be generated with a trustworthy offline-tool to prevent fraud

In this guide, we use the trusted app eoskey app.

We open this Github website, scroll down and choose our operating system to download the file.

After the download we disconnect from the internet and unpack the ZIP-file. Now we click on the icon below to open the app:

As soon as the app opens, we choose Generate and Validate Keys in the main menu on the left.

A few options appear on the right side. We need: Generate Keys. But before we click on the blue button, we must make sure that we are disconnected from the internet.

After verifying that we are offline, we click Generate (right under Generate Keys) and the app creates a Public Key and a Private Key:

You can generate unlimited key pairs with the eoskey app.
